Travelling by Car
We are only a 7hr motorway drive from Calais via Reims and Dijon, plus 20 minutes on good secondary roads to the Chateau itself.
1. Near Dijon, take the A39 motorway fork signed for Geneva.
2. Near Bourg-en-Bresse the A39 joins the A40. Approaching Geneva, take the right-hand motorway branch marked for Chamonix, Mt Blanc and Italy.
3. Near Cluses, leave the motorway at junction 18, signed Scionzier, and turn left for Cluses after the toll booth.
4. After crossing a bridge and traffic light, bear left at a big roundabout, following signs for Taninges / Samoëns / Morzine. This small route skirts the town via two underpasses.
5. Still following signs for Taninges/Samoëns, turn left when you reach a roundabout at the foot of a hill. Climb a series of hairpins to pass through Chatillon and descend into the valley of the river Giffre.
6. IGNORE SIGN TO SAMOENS NEAR FOOT OF HILL. THE CHATEAU IS HARD TO FIND IF YOU TAKE THIS ROAD!!
7. Continue into Taninges and turn right at the ‘T’ junction following signs for Samoëns. Drive straight along the valley road (D907) for about 13km.
8. After you pass beneath an overhead “Bienvenue à Samoëns” sign, the Chateau is the first building on the right - a massive stone house with blue shutters facing an old chapel. Slow down to turn sharp right through an opening in the hedge that takes you into a large, shared parking area. You will see our covered archway at the end of this area. Park next to it, or pass through the archway into our courtyard.
